iMac 27" zu langsam? Mehr RAM?

Hallo Leute,

ich bin seit einer Woche stolzer Besitzer eines iMac 27". Dies ist mein erster Mac und ich freue mich sehr :-D

Ich habe den iMac gebraucht bei eBay Kleinanzeigen gekauft. Er hat Mac OS X 10.8.2 drauf und war zurückgesetzt.

Er hat hat einen (ist es wirklich nur einer?) 3,2 GHz Intel Core i3 Prozessor, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM und ist aus Mitte 2010.

Mein großes Problen ist, dass der Gute echt langsam ist. Jedenfalls langsamer als erwartet.
Wenn ich z.b. nur Safari geöffnet habe (mit YouTube), eine Rauchen gehe und wieder komme, befindet sich der Mac im Ruhezustand. Beende ich diesen durch Mausklick und gebe mein Passwort ein, sehe ich erst mal 5-10 Skeunden das Runde Lade-Maus-Logo.

Selbst in Photoshop oder InDesign lädt er teilweise Werkzeuge (bzw länger, als mein langsamerer Laptop).

Liegt das an den (nur) 4GB RAM? Würden 8GB das ändern? Und wenn ja, es ist ratsam RAM zu kaufen, der max. 50 Euro kostet?

Ich hoffe sehr, dass ihr, meine neuen Apfelfreunde :-D mir weiter helfen könnt.

Er war sicherlich nicht richtig zurückgesetzt.
mountain Lion gehört nur nebenbei erwähnt auch nicht dir, denn das hat der Vorbesitzer unter seiner Apple ID gekauft.
ich würde niemals einen gebrauchten Rechner mit vorinstallierten OS X benutzen, sondern stets löschen/formatieren und neuinstallieren, nur so kann man Gewissheit haben, das keine Altlasten vorhanden sind.
ansonsten, Schau in die logdateien, wo es hakt, Programme/Dienstprogramme/Konsole, dort dann "Alle Meldungen" oder poste mal ein Log zum Start oder wenn die Probleme auftauchen. Du kannst das Log auch hier posten, hier findet sich immer jemand, der das lesen und interpretieren kann. Aber bitte über den erweiterten Editor ( unten neben dem Antwort Button ) und dort dann über den Button " Code" gekennzeichnet durch das Rauten Zeichen (#).

Das mit den Altlasten hätte ich von Windows erwartet. Von Mac nicht, jedoch kenne ich mich damit wiederum nicht so gut aus.
Kann ich denn alles zurücksetzen, ohne meine nun schon vorhanden Daten zu verlieren? Kann mir mein TimeMashine-Backup dabei helfen? Oder stelle ich dann auch das OS wieder her?
Wäre die Vorgehensweise dann: Zurücksetzen, Programme einspielen, OS-Update kaufen, installieren (vllt doch lieber dann erst Programme einspielen)?

Und die Frage mit dem RAM.... heißt doppelt so viel RAM gleich, dass er auch schneller läuft?
Kann man nicht die "Altlasten" irgendwie aufspüren? Oder mal einen "Speedtest" machen, und den mit irgendwas vergleichen?
Vllt ist ja auch alles normal, nur ich erwarte zu viel?

Nein. Mehr RAM bringt nur dann Geschwindigkeit, wenn der RAM vorher nicht ausgereicht hat. Anhaltspunktspunkte dafür findet man in der Aktivitätsanzeige (unter /Dienstprogramme), wo man sehen kann, wieviel Swap benutzt werden muß. Aus- und Einlagerungen vom RAM auf die Platte bremsen natürlich.

in deinem System geistert viel zuviel Müll rum, würde OS X komplett neu Installieren, wenn´s dir dann noch zu langsam vorkommt, die Festplatte gegen eine SSD austauschen, für normal Users reichen 4Gb Ram locker aus, der Flaschenhals is bei dir die Festplatte..

Ja, swap bedeutet, das ausgelagert wird, in deinem fall läuft allerdings auf dem System einiges quer, da ist das sicherlich kein Wunder.
Ich kann die nur empfehlen, wie Eingangs erwähnt, installiere das System neu.
Da wir aus der Ferne nicht sagen können, ob das System des Vorbesitzers bereits verhunzt war, oder ob du die mit deinen Einstellungen einen Bock geschossen hast, sollte das der beste weg sein, zum Beispiel magicprefs haben Probleme, alle Programme, die übers Netzwerk etwas abgleichen, wie Kalender etc, auch usw.

Ich habe folgendes vor:

- ein letztes Mal TM-BU erstellen
- ext. TM-Volume auswerfen und entfernen
- Neustarten mit CMD+R
- Festplatte löschen
- OS X neu installieren (das müsste ja dann Snow Leopard sein, oder?)
- booten und OS X 10.8 aus dem App Store laden und installieren
- ext. TM-BU anstöpseln und mit dem Migrationsassisten migrieren.

habe ich dann das System genau so, wie es aktuell ist, nur hoffentlich ohne Hänger?
Was darf ich beim Backup nicht wiederherstellen, damit ich die alten Fehler nicht wieder einalger?

Ein TM-Backup wiederherzustellen bietet immer das Risiko, dass man auch Unerwünschtes zurückerhält. Ich würde überlegen, das TM-Backup vorerst nicht zu verwenden. Wenn der Rechner noch nicht allzu lange da ist, kann man den Verlust ja eventuell verschmerzen.

vielleicht ist noch anzumerken, dass der iMac heiß wird (besonders oben drauf). d.h. nach 5 Sekunden Hand drauf halten, muss man sie wegziehen, wenn es nicht gerade eine Mutprobe ist.

Auch wird die hintere Seite oben (auf der Seite des Anschalters) sehr heiß.

Im Hinblick auf das Backup würde ich versuchen, die wirklich notwendigen Daten auszuwählen (Bilder, Videos, Musik) und die Einstellungen für Programme außen vor zu lassen. Also wenn du den iMac entsprechend nutzt wird er immer heiß - vorrangig oben.
Lad dir mal das Widget "iStat Pro"(Gratis) runter um zu gucken wie heiß CPU & GPU werden. Daran kann man sich besser orientieren als an subjektiven Wärmegefühlen

Wenn man mit aufwenigen Programmen arbeitet oder auch mal ein Spiel spielt ODER ! Flash benutzt (

) dann wird der schnell mal warm - aber kein Grund zur Sorge, das ist normal

Schwachfug! Eine komplette Neuinstallation ist fast nie vonnöten. Außerdem Bremsen Dateileichen nicht.

Ich habe die App erst seit 3 Tagen - der iMac ist dadurch nicht spürbar langsamer geworden. War vorher auch so.
Nutze die App auch eig nur, weil bei mir der Rechtsklick an der MagicMouse manchmal nicht so richtig will, und weil ich es angenehmer finde, Mission Control durch swipen zu öffnen, anstatt durch Doppeltap.

Gegen eine Neuinstallation habe ich prinzipiell nichts. Würde ich es lassen, spare ich allerdings 18 € für das OS
